Peninsula Hotels announced Mark Kobayashi as its new Vice President of Marketing reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, effective on 27 March 2017. Mark will relocate to the company’s Hong Kong headquarter from Tokyo, where he has held the role as Director of Marketing, Japan, for The Peninsula Hotels.
Mark began his career with The Peninsula Hotels in October 2006, when he joined The Peninsula Tokyo as Director of Public Relations and formed a key part of the hotel’s opening team. Having been instrumental in developing the brand and positioning of The Peninsula Tokyo, both locally and internationally, he was promoted to Regional Director of Communications, Japan, in 2012. Three years later, he became Director of Marketing, Japan, and was responsible for The Peninsula’s marketing, sales, revenue management, rooms reservation, digital marketing, public relations, brand communications, bridal and conference services initiatives in the country.
Japanese-American-born, Mark earned a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations, World Politics and Economics from the University of California, Davis, He began his career as Special Assistant to the Chief of Staff at the Office of Pete Wilson, Governor of California. In 1998, he relocated to Japan and joined a Japanese public relations firm, thereafter becoming Marketing Communications Manager at Hill+Knowlton Strategies in Tokyo. In 2003, Mark entered the hospitality industry as Director of Marketing Communications and opening team member of the Grand Hyatt Tokyo, and later worked as Director of Marketing at Bals Corporation, Japan’s leading interior furnishing company.
The Peninsula Hotels also announced the appointment of Carson Glover as its new Director of Global Communications reporting to the Vice President of Marketing, effective on 27 February 2017. Carson joins The Peninsula Hotels from Tiffany & Co., where he worked at the company’s headquarters in New York since 2008, most recently holding the position of Senior/Group Director, Global Public Relations and Communications.
Carson has developed a strong career record in public relations and communications, specialising in luxury retail. He has designed several brand partnership programmes and directed innovative marketing, communications and events initiatives that have positioned Tiffany as a highly coveted purveyor of bespoke luxury jewellery. This proven global expertise means he is well positioned to help further develop and promote The Peninsula brand in both its core and emerging markets.
Carson holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Macalester College, Saint Paul, Minnesota, with a major in Political Science and a minor in Art History. He began his career by working at marketing communications agencies in New York, and in 2003 joined J. Walter Thompson as Associate Director/Public Affairs for the Diamond Information Center, working on behalf of the Diamond Trading Company, the sales and marketing arm of De Beers. During his time there, he was appointed to the role of Spokesperson for the World Diamond Council. He later joined Harry Winston, Inc., as Corporate Communications Director.
