Langkawi, Malaysia – 26 September 2017 –
The Ritz-Carlton, Langkawi opens in a private bay surrounded by jungle.
“We are thrilled to be introducing The Ritz-Carlton to Langkawi. This exciting opening marks our first resort destination in Malaysia, and the second property in the country following The Ritz-Carlton, Kuala Lumpur,” said Hervé Humler, president and chief operating officer of The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company.
Designed by Philippe Villeroux of Kuala Lumpur-based Tropical Area Architects, the resort is designed to immerse travellers in the island’s natural ecosystem and local culture.
The 70 guestrooms, 15 suites and 29 villas are framed by references to Malay architecture, which can be seen in the intricately-designed features, large windows and gabled roofs.
The resort’s Walkway of Wishes entrance features a water fountain inspired by the island’s mystical granter of wishes, Tasik Dayang Bunting, “Lake of the Pregnant Maiden.” Each guest will be invited to write their wishes on a flat stone, which is then placed into the water in the hope that it will come true.
